Student competition section


Whistling Woods, in association with Pune International Film Festival(PIFF), invites entries from student filmmakers for the 4th annual Whistling Woods International Student Film Competition. Reaching out to students from all over the world, the Competition offers budding filmmakers a platform to showcase their work and win recognition from industry professionals. Previous award winners in this Competition have included students from film & animation institutes such as La Fémis (Paris), San Diego State University (San Diego), Film & Television Institute of India (Pune), Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques (Montpellier), Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (Mexico City), Gobelins L'Ecole de L'Image (Paris) and Filmakademie Baden-Wurttemberg (Germany).

The Whistling Woods International Student Film Competition is divided into two sections - Live Action and Animation. The last date for submission is October 31st 2010. Forms and submission guidelines can be found on the PIFF & WWI website. There are no entry fees for the Student Competition. After an initial screening process by a panel of professional filmmakers, a selection of the best student films will be screened before the Jury at the 9th Pune International Film Festival between 6-13 January 2011. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony with prizes including those for Best Film (USD 2000 - divided equally between the Director and the Producer), Best Director (USD 1000), Best Screenplay (USD 1000), and Best Animation Films – Indian & International Categories (USD 500 each).

Whistling Woods International in association with ARRI also presents a special award for student cinematographers, the ARRI Promising Indian Student Cinematographer Award. This award is open to students of Indian nationality or those studying in a Film Institute in India only.
