“Cinema is not one person’s medium” – Raja Menon
By Maitreyee Manglurkar Commenting on the fresh generation of film makers now in Bollywood and speaking about his experiences with debutant directors Naseeruddin Shah who plays a car driver in the film Barah Aana, said, “I feel they are definitely more advanced in their craft and technicalities. These film makers talk of issues that directly concern us. Never have I regretted working with them. The use of language has advanced too. Finally an age in cinema has arrived where the ‘khichdi’ language that is spoken in real life has been brought on screen.”
Also present at the press conference were Raja Menon, debutant director, Anuradha Shetty, production designer, who is also the director’s wife, and producer Raj. While speaking about his experiences during the making, Raja Menon said, “I have learned that cinema is not one person’s medium. Every person’s voice and opinion, may it be the production unit, actors or the producer, it counts. When I began to interact a lot with my watchman, I realized that there is not much of a difference between me and him. We are both chasing a dream and this is what gave me an idea for this film.” he added.
While sharing his thoughts on the film, Raj said, “Just half way through the script I was curious about the end. Also, I found it to be a fresh film with a unique perspective and that made me want to be a part of this project and I am really happy about my decision. It has been a learning experience for me too.”
Raja Menon concluded with a quick comment on his film, “I would not like to slot my film. It is a story about common people. My film represents universal issues through them or may be they chose me.”
