The name ‘Gabhricha Paus’ raises a question, “What does the word ‘Gabhricha’ mean?” Debutant director Satish Manwar addressing the media explained, “‘Gabhricha’ can not be literally translated. It is a colloquial word from the ‘Vidharbha’ region of Maharashtra, where the film is set.
Satish Manwar added, “I have not looked at this film as a tool to represent an issue. In fact, I have not looked at it as an issue because I myself come from the Vidharbha and I have seen the lives of the farmers there, very closely, considering both my brothers are farmers.”
Actor and protagonist of the film Girish Kulkarni who plays Kisna, the protagonist of the film said, “I was bowled over by the script when I first read it. Also, I felt that I should be a part of a project that is pushing a social cause in its own unique way.”
Jyoti Subhash who plays a substantial role in carrying the film forward said, “It’s one of the very few scripts that progresses without derailing from the subject. This is what pushed me to be a part of this film.”
Excited about producing this film Prashant Pethe, frankly confesses, “The film might have to wait for a release as I have run out of finances post-production.” Prashant, who juggles between his work in the Merchant Navy and his love for cinema had also co-produced, critically acclaimed, ‘Valu’.
The conference concluded with Ajay Sarpotdar, President, Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal revealing that henceforth efforts will be taken to promote Marathi cinema across the globe, not just in film festivals, “In keeping with globalization, our aim is to screen movies in international cinema halls.”
